Can an Ultrasonic Cleaner Remove Rust?

The Vevor Ultra Sonic parts cleaner worked great with cleaning dirty car parts, so we wanted to see if it could remove rust too.

Digging around the house I found some Vinegar and CLR. We also had Krud Kutter sitting in the garage which I’ve been wanting to test. This time for the test we grabbed two BMW e30 rusty bumper mounts and a rusty pulley from the alternator. Then we dunked each part into the Ultrasonic Parts Cleaner with each solution for a 15 minute test.

Being that we partially submerge each part, the heating feature was left off. (Its recommended to always have the tank full when using the heating option.) After 15 minutes I was surprised that each cleaner was able to remove some rust of the rust, but Krud Kutter came in first. CLR fell into second place and vinegar third. With that we dumped all the parts into the Krud Kutter solution for two 30 minute sessions.

The parts came out with almost all the rust completely gone. You can even prime and paint the parts right after the Krud Kutter dries up. If you’re looking to save time by NOT having to manually scrub or clean parts then I’d definitely recommend an Ultrasonic Parts Cleaner. The Vevor has some great features and is budget friendly. If you have lots of parts, I’d suggest going with at least the 10L or even larger unit.
